GO CAVING IN TUGUEGARAO, CAGAYAN
Spelunking, the term referring to recreational cave exploring, is best experienced in the province of Cagayan. For in the town of PeƱablanca, just 30 minutes away from Tuguegarao City, you’ll find the Callao Cave. I make my way to the cave’s entrance and then find myself facing my first challenge a climb of 187 steps. The cave, made up of seven chambers, begins with the Aviary Room which has different types of bird species. As you move along to the succeeding chambers, you encounter eye catching rock formations, picturesque views and even a magnificent chapel illuminated by one of many cave skylights. Although Callao Cave is not that difficult to explore, the toughest part is traversing the muddy, sometimes slippery-soft ground as well as huffi ng up and down the makeshift steps.
