Revival in the works

Paoay Lake

ILOCOS NORTE is drawing up a three-year master plan to position itself as one of the country’s top destinations, with the 724-hectare Paoay sand dunes and Paoay lake at the forefront of its new tourism development during a media familiarization tour of the province, ilocos norte governor imee marcos said that she has enlisted the help of architect Felino Palafox, Jr. to create a tourism master plan for the province in the next three years, with an eye to strengthening domestic tourism.

The tourism plan includes developing the Paoay sand dunes for activities like sand bashing or 4x4 wheel driving, sand buggies, sand skiing and sand boarding. Paoay Lake will be developed as a water sports venue with activities such as fishing and boating, wakeboarding, waterskiing, zorbing and swimming. Also part of the plan is the restoration of the Malacañang of the north, residence of the late deposed President Ferdinand Marcos, after the government turns it over to the laoag local government, and renovation of Laoag international airport and the ILocos Norte Convention Center.
